Pregnancy and early parenthood can be a stressful time. It can sometimes be difficult to know whether you are just feeling a little down or stressed, or whether you have symptoms of depression or anxiety.
Depression and anxiety can occur at any time in your life and are often triggered by a major life event like pregnancy or having a baby. Perinatal depression is an ‘umbrella’ term used to describe symptoms of depression and anxiety that a woman experiences at any time during pregnancy (antenatal depression) and within the first year after giving birth (postnatal depression). There are many physical, biological and hormonal factors that can make women more likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety during pregnancy and in the year after giving birth.1
PANDSI offers several avenues of support for families:
Information Packs
Information packs have been collated by us and are available for mums, carers, and health professionals on both post and antenatal depression issues.
Telephone Support Program
Telephone support is provided for families by our Support Workers. This service is for those who do not wish to, or cannot attend support groups. Those who may be isolated can benefit from this service.
